The southwest coast of India and Kerala has been a famed tourist destination for centuries and you can see lots of influence of western culture in the towns, their architecture, and the thriving tourism business. However Kerala still holds tight to it's community traditions like the Kathakali dance. Also, although it is quickly modernizing, you are still more likely to see the signature Chinese fishing in Kochi and the canoes and other human powered boats trolling the waters of the Arabian Sea or Kerala backwaters come sunshine or monsoon.
