The southern lakes and fjordland regions of the south island of New Zealand is the landscape that you've seen in the movies. Big snow and ice-capped jagged peaks, broad flat valleys hemmed in by magestic mountains on either side, cliffs tumbling directly down into the bays and inlets of the ocean, and turbulent streams hurrying their way to the ocean. Quite likely the most beautiful road I've ever been on was the drive down to the mouth of Milford Sound.
